homework nyc residency Launching May 5 During New York Art Week
Just in time for the premiere edition of New York Art Week, homework is launching its sophomore presentation. The nomadic gallery will commence "homework nyc residency" across multiple locations throughout the month of May.
"It's strange for a nomadic gallery to call a place home, but this residency feels like homecoming," says co-founder Aurelio Aguiló. "The idea for homework was planted while wandering, sometimes aimlessly, all over the city, visiting all the galleries, museums, fairs, shops, and thrifts we could."
Kicking off at 6 pm on Thursday, May 5, homework will open their first-ever solo artist exhibition, "Julian Chams: Traces and Visions," at Ace Hotel New York, 20 W 29th St., coinciding with the opening day of New York Art Week. The show will run until May 27.
Born in Colombia and based in Brooklyn, Julian Chams last presented work in at homework's group exhibition, "v00001," during Miami Art Week 2021. Working within multiple mediums including painting and sculpture, the artist shows a predilection throughout his work for time, nature, and the connection humanity has with both.
Details on other activations, as well as RSVP info, will be announced very soon. A sale catalog, showing works available for purchase from our full roster of artists, will be available to view in person at the exhibition site as well as online. Follow homework on Instagram and Facebook and visit homework.gallery on the web to stay up to date and learn more.
About homework
homework is an innovative, nomadic art gallery that follows and disrupts the rhythm of the art world, while giving exposure and access to a new stock of artists and collectors. Imagined by Aurelio Aguiló and Mayra Mejia, homework is committed to breaking down the walls of the traditional art world, democratizing it for all.
Activating experimental spaces across the globe, homework’s mission is to connect people through stories, making the art-consuming experience warm and accessible while always prioritizing quality and integrity. Their first exhibition, titled "v00001," featured a group exhibition by emerging contemporary artists from around the world, split between fine artists and artisans working in multiple mediums.
