Four Miami Artists Featured in homework's "Salad Days" Group Show

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.” – Albert Camus, The Rebel (1951)

It's time to go back to school.

homework is returning to where it all started for Salad Days, a new group show featuring four artists in their native city of Miami. The group exhibition will launch this Friday, September 9 at The Knoxon, 7411 Biscayne Blvd, Miami 33238, with two weeks of programming planned until a closing party on Friday, September 23.

Inspired by a desire to reconnect with the local art community in Miami, the revolutionary nomadic gallery is popping up back in the Magic City with a conceptual exhibition for the ages. Taking cues from the Shakespearean phrase that gives the exhibition its title, Salad Days aims to hearken back to the innocence, idealism, and pleasure associated with youth.

"Being inundated by the endless stream of tragic current events, we are tired of hearing that we are living in 'unprecedented times'," Aurelio Aguiló, homework co-founder, says of the concept. "We want to stage an exhibition that brings us back to that jovial period in time…going back to those Salad Days of idealism when we thought anything was possible."

The gallery has assembled a group of local Miami artists, all of various ages, for Salad Days. According to Aguiló, "We wanted to just have local artists because the aim of this show, along with all the activations, is to do something to embrace the local community and get to know them a bit better."

Featured artists include:

Thomas Bils
A photorealist painter known for investigations into the mutability of truth

Beth Roads
A painter exploring local themes and the connections, or lack there of, we have around us

Dylan Matamoros
A pop artist using cartoons to challenge social constructs

Falopapas
An Argentinian painter and muralist based in Miami with pop art inclinations

Additionally, designer Melvin Zantua is leading the exhibition's visual language and designing merch. A full slate of merch products will be available to purchase during the show.

In conjunction with Salad Days, homework x la obra de arte soy yo, a separate activation will run concurrently in the homework Project Room at Skep360. homework invited the artist Paula Sarmiento to expand upon her seminal work "la obra de arte soy yo," which concerns uniqueness as a virtue.

In addition to opening and closing parties, homework has planned an enviable slate of further programming to go along with the Salad Days, including live music, a panel for career artists, and more. See the full schedule below:

About homework

homework is an innovative, nomadic art gallery that follows and disrupts the rhythm of the art world, while giving exposure and access to a new stock of artists and collectors. Imagined by Aurelio Aguiló and Mayra Mejia, homework is committed to breaking down the walls of the traditional art world, democratizing it for all.

Activating experimental spaces across the globe, homework’s mission is to connect people through stories, making the art-consuming experience warm and accessible while always prioritizing quality and integrity. Their first exhibition, titled "v00001," featured a group exhibition by emerging contemporary artists from around the world, split between fine artists and artisans working in multiple mediums.
