Fernando Milagros Announces New Album Obsydiana

Chilean indie artist Fernando Milagros will release Obsydiana, his seventh studio LP, on Friday, October 21.

With an eclectic musical palette sourced from both traditional and modern music, Obsydiana is the summary of a nearly four-year journey of research, music production, songwriting and self-discovery. Combining Latin American indigenous traditions with digital production and sound manipulation techniques, the album pulls from folk, hip-hop, and various electronic genres to create a dark melange of mystical and modern.

Alongside a list of international collaborators, Milagros has crafted a collection of songs for dimly-lit rooms and shadowy forests. Just like the deep black of the volcanic stone that gives it its title, a dark tone permeates throughout Obsydiana, beginning with the mysterious, eerie vocals on opener "Cenizas." "Agua Santa" featuring collaborator Huaria, epitomizes the album's intense mood, while "Un Nuevo Ritmo," releasing as a single September 23, lightens the mood a bit, feeling more like a classic Spanish-language indie tune in the vein of Devendra Banhart. Milagros' graceful guitar work, combined with vocals from featured artist Pahua, make it a standout track ideal for radio play.

Milagros wrote, composed and produced Obsydiana with co-production from Andrés Nusser on some tracks. Mixing was done by Arturo Zegers and Andrés Oddone, with mastering by Francisco Holzmann.

“In the process of finding this sound I found myself, alone.”

About Fernando Milagros
Hailing from Talcahuano in Chile, Fernando Milagros was a theater designer and art director before starting to make music in 2007. Going from making demo recordings in his garage to releasing his debut album Vacaciones en el Patio de mi Casa, he joined the musical scene in Chile's capital Santiago, playing gigs in bars and clubs and occasionally opening for international acts like Jane Birkin. He broke through in 2011 with his third album San Sebastián. Since then he's toured all over Latin America and Spain, bringing his distinctive form of Latin alternative pop to Primavera Sound in Barcelona and even venturing into Patagonia and the Antarctic.

Combining Latin American indigenous  sounds with new genres, world rhythms, sound design and digital embellishments, Milagros elegantly mixes tradition with modernity and adds a singer-songwriter's lyrical touch. He has collaborated with many fellow artists including the Chamanas, Christina Rosenvinge and Café Tacvba just to name a few.
